The Ministry of Education and Higher Education and the Lebanese University mourned the Director of the Faculty of Science - First Branch, Dr. Hassan Bazzi, and Dr. Mortada Sorour, who were martyred as a result of the sinful attack that targeted the Rafik Hariri University Complex while carrying out their academic duties. She said that targeting educational and university institutions is a blatant attack on the message of science, the mind and collective memory of nations, and an attempt to extinguish the light of knowledge that universities bring to society. The Ministry and the Lebanese University considered this attack to constitute a full-fledged war crime, as international humanitarian law clearly stipulates the protection of educational and cultural institutions, and criminalizes attacking them under any circumstances. The Ministry and the University called on international and international bodies to shoulder their responsibilities and take urgent action to protect educational institutions, preserve the sanctity of the university campus, and keep education away from the cycle of targeting and violence. The Ministry and the Lebanese University offered their deepest condolences to the families of the two martyrs, their colleagues and students. She stressed that the will of the university educational family, including professors, students and employees, will remain steadfast in the face of all attempts at oppression and destruction.
